Web application charts infant growth data
A renowned pediatrics provider in the Midwest wanted an easier way to make patient growth charts. Each chart for weight, height and head circumference important information for follow-up of critically ill newborns and children-- needed to be manually plotted and graphed, and then compared to standards from the national Centers for Disease Control (CDC). While an existing system allowed for entry of this data, there was no charting function and no reporting capabilities for the data.

IBS created a new, web-based application that plots patientsgrowth data over pre-defined intervals and creates clear, accurate charts. Each patient is assigned a profile matching those of the CDC. Both the patient's graph and the appropriate CDC graph are charted together for easy comparison. Especially challenging was the development of business logic to support data for premature babies. Growth data for these children is corrected based on prematurity for the first two years.

Results
The new capability significantly reduced the time required for doctors to create their charts, and also increased accuracy. Because the application is available on the organization's intranet, deployment efforts were minimized. Usage of the application grew quickly throughout the organization and the project is considered a success.
