Business Challenge
A leading provider of transaction clearing services to the financial options trading industry needed to decommission its IBM mainframe. The firm wanted to reduce IT expenses and to standardize their applications to a Java/Oracle environment. In addition, the firm's invoicing system needed to be updated to the new environment and web-enabled to take advantage of business opportunities. As an end result, the company wished to distribute the new web-based application as a stand-alone software package to its customers.
The system handles settlement of numerous types of trades on multiple exchanges, with complicated rules for calculating commission charges between the parties. The existing environment included the IBM mainframe, MVS, batch COBOL, CICS COBOL and IDMS. The new system platform would be based on Java/Javabeans/J2EE/STRUTS and Oracle 11i running on Sun Solaris v.9.0 with application server Weblogic v.8 and web server Weblogic v.8.
IBS Services Over a nine-month period, IBS' Chennai, India development center completed the majority of the 10,000 person-hour project. The team included 15 developers, one project manager and one architect. The onsite team included the project manager/business analyst and QA/testing consultants. Extensive testing was required due to the financial transactions involved in the application.
Client Benefits IBS successfully managed the project in accordance to the project schedule. The client's system is running on a current platform, and they are now able to distribute the software as a stand-alone package to their members. |
